F4U-1A Pappy Boyington Airplane Model. The F4U Corsair is a carrier-based fighter aircraft manufactured by Chance Vought in 16 separate models. The F4U-1 variant was the first Corsair with the original cockpit seat height and bird cage canopy. The F4U-1 was based on the X4U; it has a larger fuel tank, a modified armament with six Browning MG53-2 0.50 machine guns, and its fuselage windows behind the canopy have been removed. Gregory "Pappy" Boyington was credited for 22 kills in F4Us. The F4U Corsair was in active service in early 1943 and the first combat engagement was on February 14, 1943. F4U Corsair served as fighter bombers in the Central Pacific and the Philippines. In the beginning of 1945, the Corsair performed strikes with high-explosive bombs, napalm tanks and HVARs and its versatility made it a prominent participant in the fighting for the Palaus, Iwo Jima and Okinawa Prefecture. The F4U Corsair quickly became the most capable carrier-based fighter-bomber of World War II. F4U Corsairs saw service with the US Navy, US Marines, Fleet Air Arm and the Royal New Zealand Air Force, French Aeronavale and other postwar services. Dimensions: 15.25"L x 20"W x 7"H

This is a Plastic 1/48 Scale Chance-Vought F4U-1/2 Corsair Airplane
from Tamiya.

The Corsair was primarily used as an offensive fighter and ground attack
aircraft. Initial versions had poor handling on aircraft carriers and so they
served with the Marines off land-based airstrips. Pratt & Whitney R2800 engine
required the classic inverted gull wing design for acceptable propeller
clearance. Early versions were called "Birdcage Corsairs" due to the heavily
framed canopy.

FEATURES: First Flight 1940; later versions served into the 1960's.
Highly detailed 1/48th scale plastic kit for static display.
Markings included for 1 Navy and 2 Marine aircraft.
Approximately 100 parts in light grey and clear with fine recessed
panel lines.
Optional wing radome parts for radar equipped F4U-2 nightfighter.
Cockpit is a work of art in plastic. Highlights: seat, rudder pedals
with foot troughs, detailed side consoles, control stick with
linkages, beautifully detailed instrument panel/front bulkhead.

Highly detailed 1/32 scale model kit of the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, a ground-attack aircraft originally designed to operate from United States Navy aircraft carriers in the 1950's. Although considered by some as one of the less attractive combat aircraft ever produced, the A-4, nevertheless, was a pilot's airplane. The A-4 Skyhawak is a small and light-weight aircraft with outstanding speed and maneuverability, and Skyhowks were beloved by pilots who flew them. During the Vietnam War, Skyhawks were the Navy's primary light bomber used over North Vietnam, and Skyhwas flew some of the most dangerous close ground support missions of the war. Besides its distinguished service record as a ground-attack aircraft, the A-4 Skyhawks were also used by the Blue Angels demonstration team until the 1980's and also as aggressor aircrafts by the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), a testament to the type's impressive performance.
